Mindfulness of body has always been recognized as the basic and essential foundation for calm and insight. However, many meditators assume that this practice simply means referring to bodily sensations and external movements. In this retreat, Ajahn Sucitto and Ajahn Metta will give instructions on attending to the body’s ‘somatic’ intelligence, the intelligence that responds to stress, fear, love and ease. As this intelligence connects to the heart, reference to it can release us from stress and so to freedom. Observance of the eight monastic precepts, which includes abstaining from eating after noon, will be mandatory.
